Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) Project

University of Southampton - Water Sports Centre

We were commissioned by the University of Southampton to undertake extensive species and habitat assessments in connection with proposals for the re-development of their watersports centre, in order to provice a EcIA to identify key constraints, establish approporaite mitigation and recognise opportunities for enhancement in line with national and local planning policy.

The report had been informed by previous preliminary ecological appraisal, preliminary bat roost assessment, bat emergence survey, and biodiversity net gain assessment. A shadow Habitat Regulations Assessment identified potential adverse impact on nearby protected sites, however these could be avoided or mitigated against through a Construction and Management Plan (CEMP). Proposed enhancement was identified which could be managed long term within a Landscape and Ecological Management Plan (LEMP). The BNG metric showed at least 10% net gain could be achieved on site.
